By default, the search is conducted in every field of a document, but it is possible to restrict the search to a particular field:

  • title: title of a document. The search on a title is a "contains" kind of search.

title=macron will find all documents with "macron" in the title.

  • creator: first and last name of the main contributor to the document. The search on a creator is a "exact" kind of search.

For example, this could be the photographer who took the picture. creator="Adem Altan" will find all the pictures of Adem Altan.

  • country: 3 letter ISO code of the country of the dateline (details on the dateline here).
    👉 List of 3 letter ISO codes : https://www.iso.org/obp/ui/#search/code/.

country=IND will find all documents from India.

  • city : Name of the dateline city, usually in English.

city="hong kong" will find all documents from Hong Kong.

  • mediatopic: IPTC numerical code associated with the document.
👉 The complete list can be found here: https://www.iptc.org/std/NewsCodes/treeview/mediatopic/mediatopic-en-GB.html.

Ex.: mediatopic=20000888 will show documents with at least one of the IPTC categories being "Cricket".

  • all_keywords: keywords and slugs associated with the document. These keywords are displayed in the document viewer panel. This search requires a strict and complete value.

To find documents whose keywords contain "transport", you must search: all_keywords=transport

  • afpeditorialalbum: The AFP editorial board sometimes puts together groups of documents in the form of an album. Each of them has an identifier, allowing you to find all the documents that are part of the same event or subject. These album identifiers must be communicated to you so that you are able to use them.

  • To filter alerts and urgents: priority=(flash OR alert OR urgent). Please note that a search on urgents, for example, will only find urgents that have not yet been replaced by leads. For this reason, this field is more appropriate for real-time news alerts.

You can also search for documents according to their editorial genre. Example : to refer to all the press releases : genreid="afpattribute:PressRelease". To search for all adivsories or agenda: genreid=("afpattribute:Program" OR "afpattribute:Agenda" OR "afpgenre:Agenda"). To find text stories with the editorial genre Focus: genreid="afpattribute:insight"

Find a document using its ID

The document ID is located above the document. By clicking on it, you can copy it. You can then find this document by pasting its ID in the search bar under the format http://doc.afp.com/XXXXXXX or XXXXXXX (the last 7 digits).
