The "People» facet is available in the search result tabs for All, Articles, Photos, and Videos.
As a facet, it allows users to refine search to be more relevant and precise, especially for photos and videos. For example, search results will only return images in which a person appears and has been identified.
The facet is dynamic: the list of names depends on the search results and varies with each search.
Normally, searching by name returns photos or videos where the person is mentioned in the captionor as a keyword. By using this facet, you can refine your search to obtain content where the individual is visually present.
For stories, the concept is the same: search results are filtered to only include stories where individuals are properly cited. Here the facet is also particularly useful for avoiding noise in case of homonymy.
The search for "Putin" (in English) returns 112,188 results of AFP photos (see below).
This includes images where Putin is mentioned in the caption or slugs but not visually present (e.g., anti-Putin protest here).
By selecting the "Vladimir Putin" person facet, you can indicate that you want only the photos in which Vladimir Putin appears. The number of results is smaller, and more relevant (34,837photos).
👀 Note: Names are only provided for AFP production, not for partner production. Using this facet excludes results from our partners.
