Social Stories

More than 50 Social Stories are published every week.

Story types:

Social Stories offers several different types of stories:

  • Top News: daily updates on the major news events of the day.

  • Portrait: profiles of a newsworthy individual.

  • Reportage: in-depth coverage of a current topic.

  • Breaking News: the latest news.

  • Funny Old World: weekly round-up of the offbeat new.

  • The World in Pictures: weekly selection of best news images.

Story types can be distinguished by their editorial news story style and unique graphic design.

Languages and formats

Social Stories are available in multiple languages and formats:

  • French ready-to-publish: a curated selection of international news tailored for French-speaking audiences.

  • English ready-to-publish: a curated selection of international news tailored to English-speaking audiences.

  • Raw format without text: every social story has its own raw format version, except for « Top News Â» and « Breaking News Â». The raw format can be easily identified by the « Raw Â» tag shown on the thumbnail or by using the « Raw Â» format filter.

  • 100% video format or slide-by-slide format: facilitates integration across different platforms.

Themes

Social Stories are grouped by theme, selected based on their high interest to younger audiences:

  • Business

  • Lifestyle

  • News

  • Environment

  • Science

  • Social issues

  • Sports

Themes allow for filtering of Social Stories through metadata.

How to search for, and watch Social Stories?

Search for a story â€‹

After putting a keyword in the search bar, you can use filters to refine your results. With the format filter, you can choose to display only Raw formats (without text) or only Ready-to-Publish formats (with text and graphic design).
Find our search tips 👉 here

Watch a story

Click on the thumbnail to open the preview and autostart the story. Use arrows to navigate through the screens of the story. Stop or mute the story by clicking the icons in the top right-hand corner.

How to download a story?

The .zip file contains the HTML code of the ready-to-publish webpage. Videos are also available in the "assets" file to make integration on social media easier. You just have to follow the order of the files.

For 100% video Social Stories, you will find only one numbered folder in the "assets" folder. This allows for uploading in a single action, and thereby easier integration on certain platforms.

For the Raw format, the text is contained in the zip file. The text file will be available in English or French, depending on the language of the title on AFP News. Photo and video credits must be kept and displayed. For quick access to the story content, you can find the script in the viewer by clicking on « Display more information Â» on AFP News.

When I click on the index.amp file, the video playback fails. Is that normal?
Yes, it is! Social Stories cannot be read directly from a computer system when clicking on the downloaded file index.amp.html. To be played correctly, they have to be rolled out from a web server. It’s an AMP technology constraint.

Is there any restriction or condition of use?

You must keep the slide with the photo credits.

To ensure an up-to-date version of the content, a Social Story must be used in the 30 days following its download. After this period, the story must be downloaded again from the AFP News platform to be published.
